Reverence Is Love: Scarf and Shaker

posted in: Uncategorized | 2

Show the children this pattern with the scarf and the shaker. Circle (scarf for 3 counts in one hand), shake, shake, shake (shaker taps in the other hand). Ask the children to follow your hands.

(Note: If you are doing this in person, the children will pretend to hold a scarf and shake a shaker as they follow your hand motions through the song. At the end of the song, ask the teacher to give each child a scarf and a shaker from the zip lock bag underneath the teacher’s chair. If you are doing this on Zoom, you will have told the child to get something to shake from home before doing the activity… perhaps a Mac and Cheese box or a tupperware with some rice or grain in it. They can also use a facial tissue or ribbon for the scarf.)

Do the pattern and sing this phrase: Rev’rence is more than just quietly sitting: It’s thinking of Father above. Call out “Freeze!” Ask the children to turn.

Turn to the left side, do the pattern, and sing this phrase: A feeling I get when I think of his blessings. I’m rev’rent for rev’rence is love. Call out “Freeze!” Ask the children to turn.

Turn to the right side, do the pattern, and sing this phrase: When I’m rev’rent, it shows in my words and my deeds. The pathway to follow is clear. Call out “Freeze!” Ask the children to turn back to the front.

Turn back to front, do the pattern, and sing this phrase: And when I am rev’rent, I know in my heart Heav’nly Father and Jesus are near.

Challenge the children: Tell the children that you are going to add a challenge. Ask them to exchange hands… hold the shaker in the opposite hand, and move the scarf from the hand where it was to the other hand.

Repeat the pattern as you sing the song again.
