Songs for 2021

posted in: Uncategorized | 12

Remember, if you are teaching 3 or 4 songs a month, line upon line, each activity only lasting 4 to 5 minutes, teaching all these songs will be doable.

In addition, remember that you will need CONTRAST as you teach songs. If none of the songs for the month have a strong beat, add one that does. The flow of your singing time will go better, the children will stay more attentive, and their energy level will be better because you have given them a difference between the style and character of the songs you are teaching!

Hello! Do you plan on teaching all these songs or will you be sharing your list of the the monthly songs you chose for this year?

      Hi Carrie,
These are the songs I will be teaching each month. I will three songs every week. I will do a different activity for each week for each song. The children love the variety, and they learn the songs well. Thanks for asking. P.S. Of course, if my Primary Presidency asks for a special song, I will add that in.

I make sure to teach one of the verses 4 different ways. At some point, I love to do a silent video (turn of the sound and you sing while the video is going) to an appropriate video so that they know there are other verses. The brain has a way of really mixing up the verses if the first verse is not cemented in to the memory first. I want them to love the song, not feel like there is too much coming at them.

I remember watching you (I think) in a video using two colored straws to teach “I Will Walk With Jesus.” Because of COVID we are just learning that song now, but I cannot find that link or my notes. Can you help me?

Dear Sharlene, I have not taught that particular song. When I sing it, I feel a swish, swish, circle feel. If I were using paper plates, I would probably swish them in front of me twice, then shimmer (wiggle them) in an arc above my head. If I were using egg shakers I would probably shake them quickly four times (one per word) going across the front, then shimmer/shake back in an arc. If I were using two straws, I would probably tap them over one shoulder, tap them in front of me and tap them over the other shoulder (one tap every two beats) then back in front. As the melody rises, I would probably tap them like a snare drummer on my lap to the beat.

I’d love to hear your ideas. Thanks for asking.

Sharla, great to find you again. You taught me so much years ago in Bothell. Thank you. We live in Utah now.
